Dear investors, designers, contractors, subcontrtactors, operators, other responsible people and building owners of our country. Here are some solution suggestions for fire safety subject for buildings.
Now we are in 24th year that “TURKEY’S REGULATION ON FIRE PROTECTION“ standart. (which is firstly published in 1992, for Istanbul Municipality) For this 24 years, technical people on fire safety subject expended too much effort on this.
Fire safety investments only cost %1 – %5 of total building cost, althought it is one of the most important intellegent systems that a building has to have; it directly related with human life safety. Too many prudent and thoughtful managers harmonised in a very short time with this standart and workd in a very positive way with the fire consultants. But except from this managers, also too many responsible people decided to work as ignoring this standart since it makes costs higher than thay expected.
Only chance of this investors is that they didn’t face with any fire case. Right now, in any fire accident that can ocur ona building, all these people will be responsible in front of the judge and conditions in these kind of events are very heavy.

And also we shouldn’t forget that, a defending sentence like “I madem y project to be accepted by fire brigade or other authorities” will not make investor innocent.
At this point, working with fire consultants becomes much more necessary day by day.
Here are some suggestions for fire safety subjects to investors;
- Please work with fire consultans from the design phase, to construction phase and then to operation phase of building
- Do not mix into fire consultant’s business as much as possible. Be sure that consultants also thinks about investment costs also near fire safety
- Consultancy shouldn’t be done together with designing and by same companies so please be strict for this subjest for objectivity
- While choosing the consultant, please look for experience on this field and look for wisdom for fire consultancy
- Please use certified and first quality materials as much as you can
- Please make engineering stuff to start operating business before building starts living
- Please test all the fire scenarios one by one
- Do not think only about fire emergency, also think about earthquake, chemical – biological disaster, climate based disaster or sabotage based disaster condtions.
